As I reflect outside in the quiet morning, drinking my coffee, I have some thoughts I'd like to write down. Mostly about my kids. It's funny to call them kids. Because I realize bitter sweetly they are not kids anymore. Jack has become a man. An incredibly, capable, confident and smart man. Is it possible …
Black Canyon of The Gunnison
Stunning. We took a two mile hike to the rim this morning. I've seen the north rim before, but the south rim seems even more spectacular. I am in awe. We city folks forget that we have this majestic natural wonder right here in Colorado. See for yourself.
I have lost all track of time.
I can't tell you what day it is or how long we have been on this adventure. Nor do I really care. I realized that my blog posts are not in order, but eh, who cares? We have only had service for a few moments during this trip, and fortunately no WiFi. 😃 I write …
Lake City Part 2
We get picked up in a Razor 4 wheeler and off we go. This thing is awesome. A four seater that hits the trail like it was nothing. We went to see my old nemesis Cinnamon Pass. If you recall, I conquered this in my suburban a couple of years ago. On the way we …
Lake City
Have I mentioned that my dear friend Dave had our Kayak DELIVERED to us at our campsite?? Jack and I wake up early for an amazingly quiet and beautiful kayak ride around Lake San Cristobal. We cook breakfast, take turns in the kayak and get ready for our afternoon adventure. We just happened to look …
Stonewall
We drove the stunning Highway of Legends to Stonewall. The pictures don't do it justice. I was driving the RV and Kate was trying to take pictures through the window. Jack was driving his new truck behind us with Brian. We ended up at The Middle Fork Resort to be welcomed by Bill with bottles …
Monday travel day
On the road again. Headed towards Lake City. One of my favorite places. Drive right by the Sand Dunes. Once was enough for me. Stopped at a favorite store of mine that sells local honey and honey products. Made it into Lake City at 5 ish. Stopped to see my friend Dave, who guided us …
Jack’s new Truck. Guns and Ammo.
We arose at the oasis early. Pop had work that needed to be done on the property. Pop, Jack and Brian mowed, trimmed and worked away. Then came the fun part. Pop had stocked up before our arrival on ammo. He pulled out his favorite weapons. We shot a Walther PPK, an SKS, a .22 …
Top of the world
Brian had to head home Sunday morning with Jack's truck, and the kids and I had a date at 7:30 am to go ATVing. I expected that we would just ride trails around the campground. Wrong! We drove about 30 minutes to a trailhead deep in the Spanish Peaks with Freddy (he runs the Middle …
Day one continued…
We made it to what I call the Oasis. A beautiful spot between LaVeta and Walsenberg at the base of the Wahatoya (meaning "Breasts of the Earth"). Had a wonderful evening eating, laughing and hot tubbing with Brian's parents. The humming birds are EVERYWHERE! Oh, and Kate kissed a frog. He is still a frog.
