Day Two

After a long night of beautiful rain and a whining dog, the Funster and I headed to Salida for a much needed cup of coffee. I decided to head to Crested Butte via the old Monarch Pass. I’m so glad we did. Although its a gravel road, it was beautiful. We spent a little time exploring Crested Butte before going to Lake Irwin. It’s a lovely little lake and I was tempted to stay and camp there, however, the Paonia wineries were calling my name! So, we hopped on Kebler Pass Road which is unbelievable!!! It’s a graded road that is only open in the summer and early fall. It’s FILLED with Aspen trees and grazing sheep. After a stop at my first winery (wine tasting of course) we found a lovely mosquito infested campsite at Paonia Reservoir. Might I just say that the Funster is not a great sleeping companion, he is an ideal traveling companion. 🙂
